about caliope healing

Caliope Healing is a culmination of personal experiences and trainings that bring a highly unique and intuitive approach to helping people find the path to their own healing. Caliope Healing was first conceived by founder Jemma Tory on a north facing bluff of a tiny island off the coast of Washington state at the end of the summer of 2018.

“I was meditating and became aware of a vibration about a foot in front of my face. I slowly opened my eyes to see a Calliope Hummingbird hovering right in front of me. Time stopped and we went into a stillpoint — the experience of the silence within a sacred space where nothing and everything can happen. I was able to connect the inner stillness in my heart and mind, a stillness in motion.”

“I had recently completed a 300-hour shamanic training where the winds of the north were represented by the hummingbird. The smallest of birds, calliope hummingbirds twice yearly make the most epic journey, traveling over water and land, sun and storm feeding only from the sweetest nectar of life. It is in this direction we practice the beginners mind, living consequently, with transparency and integrity.

I had been dreaming of a healing space for years but it was through the practices of the winds of the north and being on that isolated island with the calliope hummingbird, letting myself go into the mysteries and magic of the universe, that allowed that healing space to really form and land.”

Jemma has walked many paths and learned from many teachers, yet becoming a mom has had the greatest impact on her life. Through the love, the lessons, observations, conversations and struggles with her incredible child, Jemma is  constantly refining and refocusing a deeply rooted passion: to help people connect to their hearts, bodies and minds through curiosity, balance, awareness and mindfulness.  Her mission is to communicate and collaborate through the power of creation and connection to self, soul and others. Jemma’s endeavors all share common distinctions; creation, connection, communication and collaboration.

With a masters in Theatre Education, Jemma went on to receive her 200-hour yoga certification from Iron Crow Yoga Studio followed by 100 hours of Anusara Yoga Immersions 1, 2 and 3. She graduated from Spa Tech Institute with a license in Therapeutic Massage and a license in Holistic Esthetics has continue to study modalities such as cupping, myofacial techniques with Tom Myers, cranial sacral and level 2 Reiki training and completed a 300-hour Shamanic energy training and holistic health coaching certification.

Jemma has arrived at a place in her life where anything and everything is possible. Her daily intention is to let go and trust and encourage others to see the beauty of sharing experiences together and to connect to something larger than themselves.  It is the gratitude that Jemma holds for her greatest gift and most powerful teacher that inspires her to help people grow and heal through creative expression, compassionate listening and loving support of this ever diverse world around them.

The Calliope Hummingbird named after the Greek muse Calliope, is the smallest bird found in the United States and Canada.

This is the smallest bird in North America, measuring about 3 inches long and weighing about one-tenth of an ounce. Despite its tiny size, it is able to survive cold summer nights at high elevations in the northern Rockies, and some migrate every year from Canada all the way to southern Mexico. In migration it may be overlooked, often feeding at low flowers and avoiding the aggression of larger hummingbirds.

The Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest North American breeding bird. Defending its territory with a body mass about half that of North America's smallest passerine, the Bushtit (Psaltriparus minimus), or a third that of the smallest wood- warblers (Parulinae), the Calliope Hummingbird lives up to its heroic specific name, that of the muse of epic poetry. Stellula means “little star,” a name especially suited to the male Calliope Hummingbird when he flashes the magenta rays of his beautiful and unique gorget.
